Wood Privacy Fence Construction

Colorado Wood Privacy Fence Construction With Lasting Craftsmanship

Wood privacy fencing is the most popular choice for a reason. It looks natural, works with virtually any property style, and provides the solid screening that defines true privacy. From rustic ranch properties to polished estate entrances, wood adapts to the setting.

I'm Dylan with Alpine Earthworks. My team and I build wood privacy fences using quality lumber, proper construction techniques, and attention to the details that determine whether your fence looks great in five years or needs replacement.

Wood Privacy Fence Styles

  • Board-on-board - overlapping boards that provide privacy from every angle, even with natural wood shrinkage.
  • Solid board - tight boards for maximum privacy and clean lines.
  • Shadow box - alternating boards on each side, attractive from both directions.
  • Horizontal slat - modern aesthetic with clean, contemporary lines.
  • Custom designs - lattice tops, trim details, and mixed heights for visual interest.

Why Wood Selection Matters as Much as Construction

We primarily build with western red cedar and pressure-treated pine. Cedar offers natural rot resistance and a beautiful grain that weathers to a silver-gray or takes stain beautifully. Treated pine provides excellent durability at a lower price point. Both perform well in Colorado when the right grade is selected and installed properly.

The difference between wood fencing that lasts twenty years and wood fencing that fails in five comes down to lumber grade, post depth, and construction technique. We do not cut corners on any of those, because wood fence built cheap is wood fence built twice.

Built for Colorado Seasons and Sun

Wood fencing out here faces UV at altitude, freeze-thaw cycles, and sixty-degree temperature swings in a single day. Every board and post is installed with those realities in mind.

  • Quality lumber - Western red cedar and pressure-treated pine selected for grade, moisture content, and longevity.
  • Deep-set posts - Minimum thirty-six inches below grade with concrete footings to prevent heaving.
  • Proper fastener selection - Galvanized or stainless hardware that will not stain the wood or fail in moisture.
  • Allowance for wood movement - Construction techniques that accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of wood.
  • Clean cuts and finish details - Capped posts, even rail spacing, and alignment that looks sharp from day one.

Serving Colorado Homes and Estates

From Front Range residential properties to estate homes across Colorado, my team and I install wood privacy fencing statewide. Spring is prime time for wood fence installation, the ground has thawed, the weather is workable, and your fence will be up and ready for summer.

Common Questions About Wood Privacy Fences

How do I maintain a wood privacy fence in Colorado? Staining or sealing every two to three years protects against UV damage and moisture. Inspect annually for loose boards, damaged posts, and signs of rot at the ground line. Regular maintenance keeps your fence looking good and extends its life significantly.

Will a wood fence warp or crack in Colorado? Some movement is natural with wood, especially in our dry climate. Quality lumber and proper installation minimize warping and cracking. Board-on-board construction accommodates natural wood movement better than tight solid-board styles.

Can I paint or stain my wood privacy fence? Yes. New wood should dry for a few months before staining. We can recommend stain products that hold up well at Colorado altitude and UV levels. Some clients prefer the natural weathered look, which requires no treatment at all.

How deep should fence posts be for a privacy fence? We set posts a minimum of thirty-six inches deep for six-foot privacy fences, often deeper in areas with sandy soil or heavy wind exposure. Concrete-set posts at proper depth are what keep your fence upright through Colorado weather.

Is cedar or treated pine better for Colorado? Both perform well. Cedar has natural rot resistance and looks beautiful with minimal treatment. Treated pine is more budget-friendly and equally durable when properly installed. The choice often comes down to aesthetic preference and budget.
