Barbed Wire Repair Services
We Repair Barbed Wire When Livestock Are at Risk
Barbed wire fencing needs maintenance. Wire stretches over time. Posts rot, shift, or break. Storms take out sections. Animals push through weak spots. The longer you wait to fix these issues, the worse they get and the more likely you end up chasing livestock.
I'm Dylan over at Alpine Earthworks. My team and I handle barbed wire fence repair and maintenance across Colorado. We fix what needs fixing, replace what has worn out, and get your fence back to doing its job.
Barbed Wire Repairs We Handle
- Wire re-tensioning - tightening sagging strands back to proper tension.
- Wire splicing and replacement - fixing broken strands or replacing rusted runs.
- Post replacement - swapping rotted, broken, or heaved posts.
- Corner and brace rebuilding - restoring the anchors that hold the whole line together.
- Storm and wildlife damage - rebuilding sections taken out by wind, trees, elk, or snow.
- Preventive maintenance visits - catching small issues before they become expensive problems.

When Repair Makes More Sense Than Replacement
If the majority of your fence is sound and the damage is localized, repair is the clear winner. We patch the problem section and your fence is back in service at a fraction of the replacement cost.
We will always tell you when a fence has reached the point where ongoing repairs are costing more than replacement would. Your budget and your timeline are yours to manage. Our job is to give you clear information to make that decision, not to push you into work you do not need.
How We Handle Repair Calls
When a fence fails, the clock is ticking. Here is how we respond:
- Priority triage - If livestock are out or at risk, we move the call to the front of the line.
- On-site assessment - Clear evaluation of what to repair now, what can wait, and what is at end-of-life.
- Wire work - Re-tensioning sagging strands, splicing breaks, or replacing rusted runs as needed.
- Post and brace rebuilds - Rotted and heaved posts replaced, corners re-braced to carry tension.
- Old wire removal - Damaged wire pulled, bundled, and hauled off so it does not become a hazard.

Common Questions About Barbed Wire Repair
How do I know if my barbed wire fence needs repair? Walk the line. Sagging wire, leaning posts, missing staples, and rust are all signs. If cattle are getting out or you can see daylight under the bottom strand, it is time to call.
Can you fix a barbed wire fence that has been hit by a tree? Yes. Tree strikes are one of the most common repair calls we get. We clear the debris, replace damaged posts and wire, and re-tension the line. If the tree took out a long section, we rebuild it to match the existing fence.
How often should barbed wire be re-tensioned? Temperature changes cause wire to expand and contract. In Colorado, that means wire that was tight in summer may sag in winter and vice versa. Checking tension annually and adjusting as needed keeps the fence functional year-round.
Is it worth repairing very old barbed wire fence? If the posts are still solid and the wire is not extensively rusted, replacing a few strands on an old fence can extend its life significantly. If the posts are failing throughout, replacement is the better investment. We will give you a clear assessment.
Do you remove old barbed wire during replacement? Yes. Old barbed wire left on the ground is a hazard to livestock, wildlife, and equipment. We remove and dispose of old wire as part of the replacement process.
